dAv5 had a one-night stand with me

Tue Aug 8, 2006, 5:56 AM
Yesterday was very fun. Although I signed on two hours before deviantart v5 was supposed to launch, I wanted to start by enjoying some contests...

I started off in #devart and #birthday with a few contests. :devdarkylit: did a few contests involving taking pictures. Haha, the first was to take a picture of yourself doing a headstand with an apple in your mouth (oddly enough, people did it pretty quickly) and five people won within a few minutes. I participated in the next one, which was the insomniac contest. You had to take a picture of how you were going to stay awake for many hours and days. Although I wasn't one of the deviants chosen, I still had fun with this contest. If you're wondering, mine was Mtn. Dew, Vault, sugar, and Captain Morgan's in a whiskey glass, with two red hot chili peppers in the glass. After that, I think there was a few trivia questions about Y2K summer pop music (which I didn't really know, and I'm assuming the category was chosen because deviantart started, oddly enough, in the summer of 2000).

I found my way into #clowntown. $chix0r, $lolly and the clown crew had some more crazy contests. They really tested how bad deviants wanted subscriptions. One of the contests was to photograph yourself nude with meat over your...stuff . They had a lot more trivia and contests than I can recall, but these were more dA-oriented and some of the stuff I actually knew. I really enjoyed the 6-7 hours I was active in there (as well as the 2 hours I was idle :o ). Some of the trivia provoked really odd answers and spastic conversation, which is what I really enjoyed. *hottgermanchick and =madnessism provided some very funny contests and casual conversation.

Around 7:30PM PST, everyone scrambled for #winv5shirt to win free dAv5 t-shirts. I can't say I didn't win anything, though specifically it wasn't a shirt. `Blue-Six picked me to receive a free 3-month subscription and ¢budgieishere laid it on me within minutes. Much props to both of these guys, they really made my day :D I stuck around in #winv5shirt until 10PM PST (which is 1AM EST, where I'm located) and had fun trying to answer the questions and win free shirts.

However, it wasn't until this morning that I started using my subscription. I felt like a little kid when I woke up and saw v5 was applied. So this subscription is pretty pimp. I'm getting adjusted to a few new features when browsing and the category restructuring...

I want give a big thanks to $lolly, $spyed, $chix0r, @darklylit, *hottgermanchick, =madnessism, `Blue-Six, ¢budgieishere, :walloftruth:, =JesusIV, =AblativeLove, $dstruct, $mccann, *quickdraw, *bewareofthesnowman, ^superkev, %achfoo, ¢keiross, @blackice, @sapphiretiger, ¢lemontea, ^zilla774, $Heidi, =jmonzani, +suzi9mm, ^alchemism, `londonxpress, `Tachy-on ^kuschelirmel, *hakfest (lol), the creative staff, the team performing emergency surgery on dAv5 to get it up and running, all hosts and mods on August 7th, 2006, and all participants of contests and trivia yesterday. Because of all of you guys (and more, you know who you are =)) I am proud to be a deviant. =)

I would have used a larger aperature, but it was getting to the point where I wasn't able to overexpose the image with the aperature (I have a Canon, and they can't go over 30 second exposures without a trigger or a hack). I would love to say it's in a beautiful location, but it's on the Mississippi river so the smell isn't the greatest. But the view is nice! I actually took three pictures one at -2, 0, and 2 then used Photomatix to overlay them, this creates an HDR image (high dynamic range) and there's a bunch of sliders you can slide. I think I cranked the saturation way up though.

This world isn't SUGOI enough for the both of us.
